Traveling to Fiji with Kids (and Why You Should Too!)

Experiencing Fiji with Young Kids: Flights, Fun, and Forever Memories

If you’ve ever dreamed about traveling to Fiji with kids but felt intimidated by the long flight or the idea of managing little ones abroad — let me just say: Go for it.
We took our two young boys, Lucius (6) and Jabari (3), on our longest flight yet — a 13-hour journey from Dallas to Nadi — and it was absolutely worth every second. Fiji turned out to be one of the most magical, family-friendly destinations we’ve ever visited.

From friendly locals, to incredible Indian food, to stunning beaches, to one of the best resorts we’ve ever stayed at — this trip made memories we’ll cherish forever.

Here’s a look at our adventure and why you should consider Fiji for your next family getaway.

Getting There: Tackling the Long Flight

Our journey started in Austin, a quick hop to Dallas, and then the big one: a 13-hour flight to Nadi. With a 16-hour time change, we braced ourselves, but honestly — kids are more resilient than you think. Some snacks, tablets, and naps made it all manageable. Plus, landing in Fiji at 5:20 AM to warm island breezes? Pure magic.

Travel Tip:
If you're flying into Fiji with kids, be mindful of customs rules — no fruit or meat sticks allowed! (We found out the hard way.)

Where We Stayed: Sheraton Fiji Beach Resort – A Family Paradise

Hands down, Sheraton Fiji Beach Resort was a dream for families.
We got an upgraded room, access to a delicious breakfast buffet daily (more on that Indian food goodness later!), and the amenities were perfect for little ones:

  • Kids Club (Lucius and Jabari loved it!)

  • Multiple kids pools

  • Nightly activities like fire shows and movies

  • Incredible, welcoming staff

  • Couples massage in a tiki hut surrounded by lush gardens (an absolute must-do for tired parents!)

This resort made traveling to Fiji with young kids not just easy — it made it fun for everyone.

Day-by-Day Highlights: What to Do in Fiji with Kids

Ecotrax Fiji Adventure 🚲🌴

One of our favorite activities!
We pedaled an old sugar cane railway with battery-powered bikes while the kids rode safely in a wagon at the back.

  • Beautiful beaches

  • Tropical fruits picnic

  • Encounters with cattle and horses along the tracks

  • Wild, lush scenery everywhere

Travel Tip: Bring extra padding for the bike seats — trust me!

Nadi Markets and Indian Food Heaven 🇮🇳🍴

Fiji has a deep-rooted Indian culture, and the food scene reflects that beautifully.
At our hotel breakfast, we enjoyed aloo puri, pakoras, samosas, and aloo baingan — flavorful, comforting dishes that even the kids loved.

In town, we explored:

  • Nadi Central Market (fresh coconuts, custard apples, dragon fruit)

  • Handicraft Markets (perfect for souvenirs and Indian clothes)

  • Indigo Indian Restaurant (don’t miss the pani puri and rogan gosh!)

Resort Fun: Pools, VR Gaming, and Mangoose Sightings 🏖️🐾

We mixed adventure days with resort chill days
Jet skiing, VR gaming, and splashing around in the many pools gave the kids endless entertainment.
One highlight? Spotting a local mongoose scurrying along the beach!

South Sea Island Tour 🐠🌺

A day trip to South Sea Island included:

  • Pool time

  • Snorkeling

  • A mini submarine adventure to view underwater marine life

The boat ride itself felt like a mini adventure for the boys!

Garden of the Sleeping Giant 🌿🌸

If you want to soak up Fiji's natural beauty, this lush garden walk is a must.
We hiked through tropical forests, found wild starfruit trees (Lucius and Jabari loved picking their own fruit!), and took in panoramic views of the island.

Extra Magic: Bats, Beaches, and Fire Shows 🌅🔥

Every evening around sunset, massive fruit bats would fill the skies above the coconut palms — a natural phenomenon that fascinated all of us.
Many nights ended with dinner on the beach, toes in the sand, tropical breezes, and happy, tired kids.
